From January 1, 2009, on, the Essen-based Evonik Foundation has continued the activities of the Degussa Foundation. Its work draws on the experience of the former Degussa Foundation.
Established in 2003 by the former Degussa AG – now Evonik Degussa GmbH – with a capital base of 2.5 million euros, the Foundation was dedicated to the idea of support for the sciences and culture from the very beginning.
But the Foundation’s history goes back even further: when the company was founded, it brought together the Degussa-Hermann-Schlosser Foundation (established in 1954) and the Degussa-Konrad-Henkel Foundation (established in 1991).
Thanks to an endowment of 1.5 million euros on January 1, 2008, the Evonik Foundation is also well equipped for the future. To mark the International Year of Chemistry, the Board of the Evonik Foundation has gone a step further and increased the capital base by 2 million euros.
